Unless you are loaded or you have massive amount of savings , unemployment is never a good thing.
You are thinking of a sabbatical and not unemployment

I’ve been unemployed once and am better for it. Learned the importance of saving in an attempt to one day exit the rat race and being beholden to the whims of factors in the control of other human beings.
Thankfully, I’ve never been unemployed (as an adult at least) but I do dream of it sometimes. Like, if I had a few months of severance and months of savings built up (annnd some guarantee of another job lined up) it would be a dream. Just to relax and enjoy life for a while. Maybe travel and read.
Most people probably don’t have these luxuries and instead are hyper anxious that the longer they’re unemployed the more likely they are to stay unemployed and end up completely derailing any plans they have for the future when (and if) they find stable employment again.
So, I imagine it’s a double edged sword.
Exactly - it’s all in how you position it. “Laid off and unemployed for 6-months” is very different than “took 6-months to reset, refocus, and travel.” Same time unemployed, but two very different perspectives.
