I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-
1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)
2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.

You sell and deliver not because you are good at it. It’s because you have the backing of a team that supports you and the brand that absorbs the liability.
Go independent and no one will pay you those million dollar contracts even if they know you well. Because the minute you screw up, they can’t get much out from you with your personal worth
Independent for 6 months and likely taking a job next week because managing a pipeline is HARD. It's either feast/famine, or a select group of clients with regular needs and a strong network of people who also do What You do, so you can share work. That said, I never want to work at a company with middle managers, committees, promotion cycles, or office for the sake of face time again.

Clients buy the brand
Yes you may have a Rolodex but when you are delivering work it’s hard to be selling to the next person. Time for decisions proposals etc
Most people in consulting are all talk, that's why
Because we don’t actually have skills. We just get paid for BS’n sexy decks 😅
Risk aversion obviously
A1 is that even allowed? During LOA technically you’re still employed with an org.. can you do contract work during that time ?
Work for a risk adverse firm, we tend to act risk adverse as well
Thinking about it. In 6 months I can make what I normally gross in a year. Can always come back to Consulting after. The pipeline for our practice is stagnant. No interesting work for almost a year. Thinking of taking LOA doing contract work and returning
Been there done that. If money is all ur after go for it. Little career progression. You will be doing the same thing in 10 years you are doing now
If it’s so easy, why don’t you go independent OP?
Ego....most big problems go to the biggest companies. I want to be in front of those problems.....shit what am i doing here
If I were single, I would buy a tiny house in Dearborn, MI for like $70k to get my expenses ridiculously low and build it from there, but one month of invoices that is lower than my old salary is totally rattling.
