Why is weather always used as the universal small talk? Why does it always work lol

Because everyone experiences the weather

likesmarthelpful

It's an innocuous topic which isn't likely to start arguments. Everyone experiences the weather, and conversely, the weather impacts every aspect of our lives. Food, fashion, architecture, travel - all of it

I work in Chicago. I know it’s incredibly cold. I grew up in northern India (by the desert). We would have incredibly hot (desert-like) summers and cold winters. It wasn’t Chicago cold, but it got down to zero Celsius. I never minded the cold as much because you can put layers on, but the hot…that’s something you can’t avoid. I l like to talk to Chicago people about the cold because the summer time in Chicago is beautiful compared to India and I think the cold is worth it. I use this conversation literally hundreds of times per year. They love it. If it’s not winter it works to compliment the summer and if it is winter it works to say - this sucks but it’s going to be so worth it come April.

I can confirm I work in Chicago and love talking about the weather. We’ve had some nice rain recently

Welcome to our planet, we hope you like it here.

Also : what about that rain?

funny

It always changes and affects everyone

like

no actually the sunny day we’re having sucks i love the rain and anyone who disagrees with me belongs on epstein island

smart

We all experience it, we think about it daily, we generally feel the same about it, and when we do disagree, no one is offended by the other’s opinions on it.

How’s the weather where you are?

I’m from LA where the weather is always perfect..No need to speak the same thing eve everday

funny

Yeah nothing to complain about

Because some of us are from the northeast and the weather is like a mood ring. It is not small talk. It is my favorite topic. It is BIG talk.

like

I never ask about weather on principal. Just feels like such a small talk cop out.

We are animals in essence 😆

Yesterday was warm
I know it was
today
just cold

You clearly need more practice talking about the weather

Or sport!

Try cars and chicks and latest fashion

My friend’s parent’s jewelry store has a Bluesy (ref 16613) in “like new” condition + box from 2008 for 10k. I had been contemplating buying a Rolex, but wasn’t super set on it. Is this a solid deal? Chrono24 seems to have couple years older ones for around 8-10k in very good/with papers, so not sure if I should keep shopping around
