You’d better figure out some convincing answer cause this is probably the easiest part of the interview.
Companies are looking to see if you did your research and that you are dying to work there specifically so anything specific to them will work.
"I NEED MONEY TO LIVE!"
"A waymo drove me here and I'm in it for the free Cheez-Its"
absolutely. I mean if someone can’t provide a good answer to ‘why do you want to work here?’ then I’m absolutely not hiring them.
Even if the true answer is ‘I need the job and the places I really want to work at aren’t hiring’, you’ve got to be smart enough to show you’ve done enough research to come up with a plausible reason that’s specific to the role.
It’s a test of basic intelligence and care factor more than anything.
Read the website and the various digital platforms to get a handle on their “unique” culture and approach and find something that resonates with you and your goals. Look at their work and case studies and find something interesting that you admire and want to be a part of. BS your way through as needed.
I am constantly surprised at how many people are flustered by this question (this is clear based on the # of times I see this phenomenon mentioned on different platforms)
There are two rules in interviews:
1. Is the question resume-related? Be truthful
2. Is the question about excitement, ambition, what makes you tick? “Embellish”
Interviewing is just sales. Don’t be candid, for gods sake.
These are basic questions that you can Google and learn exactly how to answer.
