Wife got a job in Chicago and we are thinking to move (eventually). Looking for excellent schools and house around 900k, pref newer const and 3 car garage. We are moving from n Virginia. I have heard north shore and hinsdale but I can’t believe how $$ these areas are. Are there others we should consider? Wife would have to take train downtown once things open up.

Question for folks with second homes: Considering buying a vacation home but would be primarily for family use. We currently have a primary residence with a mortgage balance of ~640K, so my understanding is I could only deduct the mortgage interest on 110K of the second mortgage to stay under the 750K cap. If I were to buy the second home through an LLC, would that allow me to exceed that 750K since the expenses of the second home would be pass through expenses/income?

How does NY (or any other states that tax income) enforce taxes on nonresidents? Assume the taxpayer does not file state return with NY and does not have NY on W2.

Seems NY would have no way of targeting said taxpayer for audit. Thoughts?
