Philly is one of my favorite food cities, even though I know that's controversial haha! For cheesesteaks, Sonny's Famous Steaks in Old City is my fav. If you're into Thai cuisine, Kalaya in Fishtown is extremely good. My favorite bar is pretty cozy, it's called 48 Record Bar in Old City, great cocktails with vinyl music - very chill spot
Yes to first 2. No to last.
Laser Wolf, Kalaya, Suraya in Fishtown. Stop in to R&D and/or Next of Kin for cocktails before or after dinner. Her Supper Place, Fiorella, Mawn, Double Knot, and Royal Izakaya are all great spots for dinner. Middle Child Clubhouse for weekend brunch. Alpen Rose for a steakhouse (if you can’t get in, Butcher and Singer or Barclay Prime are solid backups). Franklin Mortgage Company, The Lovers Bar at Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and 1Tippling Place for nice cocktails in Center City. For sports bars, there’s Garage, Cavanaugh’s, Founding Fathers, Barstool (trends younger) in Rittenhouse. There’s also Buffalo Billiards in Old City which is a personal favorite.
What do you like? There’s too many options without narrowing down.
Alpen rose/butcher and singer for your steak, you have a few good cocktail recs already, and probably founding fathers for a sports bar likely near where you will be staying
Walk into Zahav right when it opens or a few minutes earlier for a seat at the bar for dinner (reservations would be tough).
Agree zahav is better if you're staying downtown and also again that laser wolf is now superior (last I was able zahav it lacked soul and felt like it was just cranking it out).
Kalaya in fishtown. Mulherin and sons. LMNO.
Mulherin and sons is a Michael Schulson collective group restaurant right?
Fork in Old City Philadelphia (fancy)
Suraya in Fishtown (Mediterranean)
North Third in northern Liberties (pub food)
Standard Tap (high end pub)
Alice in Italian Market
Only Suraya is worth on this list
I am staying in the city center area. If that makes aense
These are pretty good, but if you do Vernick Fish (different from Food and Grill), you’re better off starting upstairs at the 60th floor to Skyhigh for a drink.
What kind of food/cuisine you like?
Sabrina’s Cafe - Casual/diner brunch vibe near Art Museum
Bud and Marilyn’s - American comfort food and 🩷 their confetti cake in Washington Square
Pizzeria Beddia - v cool pizza spot in Fishtown
El Rey - Casual/chill Mexican near Rittenhouse
Bok Bar - rooftop view is amazing although a bit far from downtown
Khyber Pass Pub - good bbq and drinks in old city
Good point
More importantly where are you staying?
When I go downtown I often frequent McCormick and Schmicks(business casual atmosphere with the view of broad street),Del Frisco’s Grille(same ordeal as the aforementioned), and The Good Dog Bar. The Good Dog has 3 floors. I favor the downstairs location. Fun relaxing atmosphere that cranks out excellent tunes. If you have an eclectic taste of music, you’ll have a great time

There are so many good places. What kind of food do you like or what kind of restaurants do you like?
Philadelphia is a vibrant city and must be fun to visit for the first time! I recommend trying Zahav, a very popular modern Israeli restaurant, or Vedge, if you like vegetarian food. Reading Terminal Market is also a great option, with a variety of food stalls to try the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. As far as bars go, The Franklin Bar is a hidden bar with an exceptional wine list, and City Tap House serves great local craft beers for partying with friends. We hope you have a great time in Philadelphia!
LockBar is a great seafood restaurant and has a stellar cocktail menu! 🦪
