Never put papers without offer in hand.
you are dissatisfied with your current work, which happens to all of us.
The ideal and smart way to handle this is start giving interviews and get an offer letter before putting the papers
I appreciate your suggestion. But will i get calls with 3 months notice period. Please read my other comment on this post.
Firstly reason why they’ve put you in a non DS work, after hiring you for DS. If the reason is not a skill gap, then have a meeting with your RM and voice the issue.
If nothing changes deliver only the bare minimum in your office and stay focused on your niche and start giving interviews. Do not drop your papers without an offer.

I was on PIP for 3 months because of low utilisation. HR had told me that if i don't get into a project by end of August I might be terminated. So i just gave interview for this project as anyways i wasn't getting any other calls. And these people selected me even after a below average performance in the interview. They have asked me to join on this Monday.
Now I feel that it'll be a waste of my time as it'll not add any value to my ds knowledge. And then after the end of this project, I'll have to restart my interview preparation. And even if I try for interviews during this project without resigning, recruiters won't reach out to me because of 3 months notice period.
It's a really critical decision for me. Kindly share your thoughts.
Never assume recruiters will reject because of 3 months notice. Many of us have served 3 months notices multiple times.
Prepare a good resume and start applying. 60% of the time in your job, you have to do non-ds tasks aswell viz., code review, feasibility study, documentation etc. So, continue in your job and start applying.

Hey three months are enough, Even I did that and got more than 10 offers , daily 500 calls, also I didnt attended many interviews of small companies who were paying good. By end of last month I stop giving interviews
