Wilmer got called out in the Ronan farrow expose on Sam Altman. I’ve been hearing increasing warning signs from ppl still there about how much the cultures changed & it used to be top of my list esp in lit/enf work but some big names have left recently & this article (which should be read critically) + their Epstein work calls into question whether it’s a place I’d want to work. Obvi big law is big law and you can’t pick your clients but maybe their integrity isn’t what it used to be

Are you going to provide the link or say anything useful? Don’t just assume all of us have read whatever expose you’re speaking of.

Hi there,

Just joined S&C from 8 YOE in industry. Joined as M1, but was also a manager in former industry role. How soon is reasonable to be thinking about promotion Senior Manager? What kind of salary increase comes with this promotion?

Also, I negotiated current salary when the offer came 5 months ago now, not taking into account high increases in inflation. Do salaries get adjusted for inflation? And if so, when?

Do you think partners in law firms have too much power and autonomy? eg. the power to refuse leave, to do your annual appraisal, to make you work while on leave, to overwork people, to manage the team on their on terms etc. Is this power bad or good for the firm and the team overall?

Related question - Do you think the HR in law firms are just there for show since the partners have a lot of power and autonomy?

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?
