The only memorabilia I still have is a Southwest pin that I got from the pilot on a flight in August 2001, my last before 9/11.
Ah, the fond memories of being able to walk with family to the gate, then get a tour of the cockpit from the pilot after boarding!
I lived abroad as a business expat during 9/11. Before then you used to be screened with a metal detector. When I came back three months later I saw military with machine guns in the airports. If you stopped walking at Newark Airport security would surround you
I have pre 9/11 boarding passes. My parents used to meet me at the gate /drop me off in high school and college when I flew. Such a different time.
I was 21 for 9/11 and had just moved to NYC. (Yep that’s 20 years kids). I am still here sometimes I think just to prove a point.

I love the humor. Hey man, I’m class of ‘96 and I’m struggling to figure out how we are 20 years down the road, working for the man, no more Nirvana and flannel shirt. Also doc martens.
One of my best flight memories that ever happened was round 86 or 87. On an international transatlantic PanAm flight, the attendants were really nice and gave my wings and coloring books crayons, etc. It was just my mother and I was something like 8 or 9 years old. I’m the middle of chilling with my crap that I had to entertain me and it’s about half way through a long ass flight. Some dude apparently got nicely sauced up and decided to get handsy with one of the attendants. She proceeded to take her 1980’s full glam stiletto heel and proceeded to beat the dude over his head. It was a good cat fight and makes my giggle when I think about it.

In May 2002 we had our class trip to Spain. One of the guys lost his passport in Spain and our teacher convinced the gate agent to let him fly using only his driver's license.
That could never happen today
I am so happy to see someone well over 30 posting. I feel like a dinosaur because I can smell 50 from where I am. 😕
