Ok, if they want to get rid of you, the fact that you are on leave would not stop them. If they don’t want to get rid of you, why would they do it because you took the leave? Does not make any sense. We really like Associate and he makes us a ton of money but he took six weeks of paid leave (as our policy allows). We need to get rid of him when he gets back after we pay him for not working for six weeks.
I took the full paid parental leave offered as a senior associate both times and it worked out fine. Honestly though, do you want to be at a firm that pays lip service to what’s really important in life?

FMLA should give you 12 weeks of protection in the US. If there are layoffs to your entire department you can still lose your position, but they cant single you out because you are on leave and just fire you. If they do, you could likely get a lawyer to help manage the situation.

I've worked at a couple of companies that have parental leave and seen male co-workers go on leave and come back with no issue.

D2, it is pretty normal for a company to offer paid parental leave concurrent with FMLA.

I took my parental leave when I had my son, and my position was secure. It was a time I really enjoyed and wouldn't trade for anything. Take advantage of the time.

Why would they fire you for taking parental leave ? They don't have to offer you paid leave. They clearly want you to take it.
