Would it be wrong of me to reach out the PM who I replaced at my new company? I’m starting to think it wasn’t his fault and I want to see if it’s worth staying here/what his experience was

Never a bad option but you should reach out with an open mind and be more curious than trying to connect any currently conceived dots. I’ve done it plenty of times.

good call! yeah I was thinking an open ended “what was your experience” type of approach and see where it goes

I’d say leave them alone, they probably want to put that job in their rear view mirror

I don’t think it is wrong but I would question what you are hoping to learn. Are you looking to validate concerns you already hold and decide if you should move on? If that’s the angle then yes, I would reach out. Honestly any other reason just feels like looking for trouble.

sounds like you already answered your own question? I doubt the previous person will say it was his fault and will likely blame the environment. I would go in with specific questions otherwise you are probably going to get a very salty opinion

Yes, you can reach out but should be vigilant to draw boundaries. You can start off with appreciating his work.

As someone who was in the same situation last year, I can tell you I decided against it because neither myself nor my predecessor would have gained anything from it other than some venting. It instead prompted me to think about what questions I would ask to raise those red flags in the interview stage.

I need advice. I moved into product management under a year ago to an early stage startup. The first few months went well, but the last 5 have been chaotic. It feels like we’re becoming more sales led, there are too many pivots (I expected some) our roadmap is becoming influenced by sales/ceo. Essentially, we’re trying to do much. It’s happening so much I’m starting to lose confidence in the company/strategy. It’s also causing me anxiety…

Advice on applying to PM jobs with 1yr APM experience?

I’ve been working as an APM at my current company for 1yr, and have basically been doing the work of a full blown PM the entire time. I’ve lead several features from start to finish and made sure to mention in my resume that I have been doing everything a regular PM does. Has anyone ever hired an APM for a PM role or done it yourself? Any tips? Advice?

Would folks be open to participating in a “PM Office Hours” style discussion?

Flexible on format etc; here’s what I’m thinking:
- We choose a particular problem for a week (/month?) which a lot (all?) PMs face regularly. E.g. “stakeholder mapping”
- we have a “Fishbowl Live event” where we (practicing PMs) can discuss what we have seen work / not work/ brainstorm solutions for someone with a specific problem.

The idea is to provide multiple peer perspectives, and hopefully something useful
