Would you get another degree or certification in your career? I hear mixed feelings. Some people think it helps and others think it’s a waste of time and resources

Certification, yes. Degree, no. A degree is a lot of time and resources, and it’s also a commitment if you are still working. If it were a guaranteed leg up, I would, but I don’t see it for myself currently.

Ahhh that makes sense

like

I wouldn't. I spent forever paying off my student loans. I'm never going to voluntarily carry that burden again. The only way it'd happen is if my employer covered all of it, and even then I'd have hesitations because I'm busy enough as is just trying to manage work, parenting and homeownership.

That’s very true. It’s already hard handling the job as is and adding work on top of that is mind boggling

I would only do it if I think it can really propel my career forward. As of right now it wouldn't help too much.

Yes in my industry of digital marketing it is important to stay updated and learn what is happening in industry as well as sharpen skill sets. I believe it also depends on your role or industry. It is never too late to get a degree or certification.

Hello, I am looking to make a career change that starts at a minimum 75K salary. The economy is tough right now and I can no longer afford to stay in my current role. I have a bachelors degree in Sociology with experience in managed care, utilization management, & clinical admin.. Does anyone have any suggestions for a possible higher paying career that I would be qualified for based on my background?

What according to your experience during interviews has been one thing that you said or did made you get the job over 1000s of other applicants for a job, according to you? What is that one thing that made a difference and set you apart?

Just asking to learn from experiences.

Hello there! I currently work in billing at a medical office. I got my Bachelors in Psychology a few years ago but I couldn’t find a position that seemed like a good option for me that was well paying and fulfilling. I tried working as a tech at an Applied Behavior Analysis clinic but it wasn’t a good fit. I’m hesitant to try case management or social work because I worry I won’t like it but I want to use my degree in Psychology. Does anyone have any ideas for me?
