Is the 1hr commute via car or train? I think I’d be willing to take the train for an hour for higher pay. I could do hobbies while I waited. Not sure I’d want to drive for an hour though.
I actually made this decision, and took the longer commute (numbers were different, but it amounted to a 12% bump, which more than compensated for the $5k-$7k I now incur commuting).
I will say... it depends on the opportunity. Three years later, the promises made about the opportunity did not come to pass, so it was a bad choice in hindsight. Had the promises been fulfilled, it would have been worth it.
I don’t think it’s enough to justify the increased commute to me (I say that as someone who commutes 2 hours each way but that’s because I can’t find the kind of job I do near me)
I would try to negotiate a little more from the new place given the commute. It is nice that it is only three days a week but still a long commute.
Thinking along the same lines as Gallagher. If good public transit exists in your area, I'd take the $120k. The salary hike and 2 additional remote days make it more appealing to me.
2 extra days at home is huge.
Stay. Increased commute and associated costs (most significantly, your time) aren't worth it!
