Haha. This has been going on for years. They also monitor students who are in the US and report any student who is becoming too Americanized. When I worked at a University this was a concern for a lot of students. They also have Chinese students on campus monitoring other students.

Most likely issues back at home. Not for Chinese Americans but for Chinese folks who come to the US on visas and plan to return.

Just heard about this on the radio the other day. Crazy stuff, man.

These definitely aren’t “consulates” lol. But yes this isn’t even first prosecution for this in relation to China.

. As a lawyer, I'm always fascinated by cases like this that involve international legal issues. I remember a case I worked on a few years ago involving a Chinese national accused of smuggling cultural artifacts. It was fascinating to learn about the intricacies of international law.

There isn’t really any international law at play here

Wow this is seems straight out of a television show. I wonder how they caught them and how long this has been going on

Anyone feel like your job sees you as "one of the good ones?" It hasn't explicitly been said, but I'm one of the only Black attorneys at the firm and I think my white colleagues and partners see me as an example of how Black folks "should be" cause I mind my business. Basically I feel like a token, and I don't know how to shift that idea while staying professional.

My work quality is slipping due to brain fog and mental health issues and I don’t know how to address it with my firm or who to go to. I was considered one of the best associates in our practice group, but now it can take me 3-4x the time to write an average brief. I can’t seem to think and organize my thoughts any more. This is incredibly scary bc obvi, that’s what this job is all about. I’m in IP litigation at a V50 firm and a mom. Do I raise it with partners and how?

Kind of a quick rant. I did a quick search through some firms websites because I am thinking of switching jobs. It is definitely clear most firms still do not embrace diversity. I know diverse applicants must be just as qualified! So what is keeping attorneys of color out?? It’s so discouraging.

Have you ever been told off by an older attorney of color? We have one Black partner at our firm and in conversation with him this morning he told me I should work on sounding and looking "more professional" and not let my "tone" or "bad attitude" get in the way. I don't think I've ever had a bad attitude at work, and whatever "tone" I'm speaking in it's my normal one. As a Black woman I just feel super weird about it and kind of sad.
