I’ve been there! You were put in the leadership role because someone thinks your instincts are good. Trust your instincts and stop second guessing yourself! You’ve got this!
This, thank you 🙏 ❤️
Idk man we all fall a little short every now and then, it’s human. Do you think you could grow into this project/role and find your footing? If so then this is just eustress until then. If not, then that’s a valuable conclusion to think about differently.
I totally know this feeling. Everyone’s process is different, but what worked for me was simple lists of “what i need to do, in what order” both for “figuring out the role” and for individual projects.
I find most strategy people are great at taking the chaos of research and stimuli and turning that into insight, but don’t feel at home taking the chaos of a project and turning it into a plan, even though they already have the core skills.
🙏 thank you! I do feel overwhelmed. So many processes ans new perspectives to learn—have the skills, but need to organize them.
I think what makes it worse is that in my second week I was unofficially told I was going to lead a high profile client’s work once they sign. Now, I keep thinking I’m messing up, and the work I helped lead has been sub par. Just so much to navigate, and now I have something to lose (the promotion).
Very first thing: get organized. Get a white board, yes, an actual white board, and organize everything: teams, projects, deadlines, meeting/presentation times and dates, client names with likes and dislikes, etc. you’ll be amazed how much weight it can take off your shoulders to have everything orderly and organized and physically right in front of you.
Make sure you use your resources. Delegate the work, ideas come from your team, and then you can craft it to align with your instincts. Focus on the bigger picture, and they'll fill the gaps for you. Good luck, you can do this.
