Not a responsibility, but yes they sometimes set the tone. Not always. Some people think independently from the herd.
yeah, absolutely. if the first comment is snarky and sarcastic, the rest will be dicks, too.
...but hoping for some genuine responses too
Good observation!
I think a prolific response can change the tide at any time.
Great point. It can also swing a conversation entirely from the actual topic of the post for many comments to come (speaking from my own experience). It seems that sometimes people just feel like they can and have to say something without giving it much thought (just like IRL ;))
AD2, so you mean a thread with a high-volume of replies?
Um, we have a responsibility on a message board? Bwahahahahaha!
I think CD1 just attempted a swing in a slightly different direction/tone:)
But yeah, I guess what I meant is the first reply can be responsible for what comes next, whether intentional or not
And then what other things can develop organically from what those responding on topic said that jolts others into a stream of consciousness is another phenomenon altogether:)
But going back to what Saatchi said, I've noticed that first comment can really influence for a while the tone, especially if negative and others jump on that like piranhas:)
@OP prolific meaning the response is short sweet and on point or makes light of the post. if it is well received it can influence what follows. but also agree that if the responses are many then no one will make it to the bottom TLDR.
@OP - doesn't it make you hyper aware of how convos flow during the work day as well?? Incessant group think. Follow AD2s point... be prolific! Change the course!
My responses are woke af.
Mvs1, it totally does which is why I was asking... Just watching the herd mentality on these threads alone has been fascinating + making me more aware of what I do/say too
Btw, not to sound arrogant, but "prolific" means producing a lot (ex: a writer who's published a lot of books is a prolific writer), so that's why AD2's comment was throwing me off. Perhaps you guys mean "poignant" or "succinct" even? Either way, I hear what you're saying and glad to know I'm not alone
CD1, you da best, keep on keeping on:)
