You ever regret going to law school? Not all the time, but on the rough days, I wonder what would’ve happened if I’d gone into writing or business instead. Law has structure and prestige, but sometimes it just feels… joyless.

I don’t regret doing to law school but I do wish the legal field was a little more reasonable in terms of work life balance. Other fields have more part time options and are more flexible. I’m a lawyer but I also have other interests and hold other roles and it feels like the legal field doesn’t agree with that.

I don’t but that’s because I got lucky enough to work biglaw and pay off my loans quickly. Now I’m just hoping to coast, save, and enjoy the benefits the income provides until it’s no longer bearable.

Only when I make a mistake or have a bad day. The law is incredibly inflexible and soul sucking at times but I like the work I do. I also have hope that as the old guard phases out we'll be able to make meaningful change within the industry to better protect and support our personal lives and mental health.

What will this be like? It's more of a niche, but lucrative, part of their practice, right? Will I really get good WLB like they claim? I have a nice 40 hour a week job right now, no billables.

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?
