Lots of right wing hysteria about liberals trying to engineer equality of outcome to correct sexual/racial inequities (in higher ed, for example). I think we all want socioeconomic, gender and racial barriers to opportunities to be addressed, but no significant number of people really believe in equality of outcome right? I’m struggling on how to effectively coach a designer on my team who is a low performer. I’ve been working with them for two years.. but have not seen the growth needed to succeed in this industry. They’re slow, lack creative innovation, and have a hard time designing strategically (designs don’t make sense even from a functionality standpoint).

Want to establish quick, reactive line of creative idea comms with the client (for timely executions). Running things by accounts destroys the process. Either they become wannabe CDs or evil “clients” …with feedback that makes effort never ending, instead of putting the idea in front of the client. What can be done? CD is new to the agency and is trying to figure out the client relationship.

My coworker, who was my friend for a long time, has been lying to me, throwing me under the bus, and taking credit for my work and ideas. I have done more and worked harder than him but he was promoted. He failed a new client big time and I was asked to step in and save the relationship which I did in a big way. Why do I have to work so hard every day while he gets away with scraping by and plagiarizing? How do you deal with a coworker like that?

How early is too early to ask about salary when interviewing? First meeting w HR? With the CDs/ECDs? Or do you have to wait all the way till the end? Just went through a long interview process only to find out they never had enough to hire me without me taking a pay cut 😭

Art Directors. How protective are you of your references and resources? I have a folder with lot’s of textures, mockups that I’ve spent time building. I even paid for some of those assets. So I always get a lot of compliments on my comps and decks. Sometimes someone ask for my files and I really don’t want to since I put so much effort on that. But I also feel bad being gatekeeper of things.
