How many points does this note from my (presumed alcoholic) mom get? I see some denial, deflection, ego, remorse... I harbor no resentment. Just sad. I didn't say a word about it today, not one word (progress for me) except when she started to tell me the same stories today "you told me that last night." She sent this note unprovoked. It was more than 4 drinks... I'd remember. I accept what I can't change. And she gets mean.

After nearly 4 years of struggling with addiction, I stay clean for one day, everyday, for 9 years. I remember the wreck I used to be and I need to be a good example for my daughter.

If you’re dabbling in recovery and not sure how it all works, or struggling to identify with people in recovery, then I recommend this book (it’s actually a really good read even if you have some significant sober time too)!

ONE DAY AT A TIME

Above all, take it one day at a time.

Spiraled again. Trying not to beat myself up. Had a glass or two while playing poker. Ended up playing and drinking until 5 am. Missed friends bday and just lied about having other plans

Has anyone read the Power of Now? Did you find it useful in your recovery journey? I find it so textbook-like but willing to give it another try if you all manage to convince me :P

Been on both sides of this conversation. I hope people are more willing to try to have fun without drugs/alcohol and prove to themselves that the fun was never because of those things to begin with!
