How long does it take for conflicts to clear? For background, I’m at a super toxic ID firm. Naturally, I’d like to leave ASAP 😂 I sent in the conflicts form Friday mid-day… and have I refreshed my email every day since? Yes. 100% yes.

And the offer letter said that the offer is contingent on references… but are they really going to call my current firm? I don’t want my present firm to know I’m looking to leave. They’re already suspicious and looking at my LinkedIn / asking every day.

I was at a firm that I like working for since 2L law school. I recently got a new employment contract and promotion. I'm only a year out. But for family reasons we're looking to move closer to family and I'm looking to take a completely remote position or just start my own firm.

My current firm is pushing to go in person and won't consider me going remote. What's the best way to handle this?

My boss is a close personal mentor and I'd like not to burn any Bridges.

Currently a senior in a niche but well developed group at an AmLaw100 firm. I am doing great work, have WLB, and many folks to bounce ideas off. Received an offer to lateral to a much prestigious AmLaw firm which is in “growth mode” and trying to build the niche group. I’d be one of the few with the expertise when I join which would provide opportunities of leadership and client development. WLB and reasonable hours have been advertised. Comp is higher too. Should I do it? Help!! TIA

Anyone been ghosted by a firm lately? Made it through last rounds earlier this week after weeks of interviews, was given every impression that I’d be getting an offer today… and yet radio silence.

I know it happens… but c’mon, really?

Wondering about vacation time as an associate. Would it be frowned upon to take a week vacation one month, then another week two months later? (And one more like 4 or 5 months after that). Writing it out makes it seem like this should be fine, but in my head it seems like a lot.

Battling imposter syndrome during job search. I’m 2.5 years out and just started applying/interviewing for a new position. I have been at the same firm since 2L (different summer positions though) doing primarily plaintiff PI/WC. I have a ton of litigation experience but I feel like I lack substantive experience/knowledge outside WC/PI. I’m interviewing at defense civil lit firms now who seem receptive but I feel wildly under qualified. Anyone else go through this? Advice?

I’m a fourth-year associate who just got an offer to go in house. My experience is in litigation but I’d be working on more corporate matters, which scares me. But I hate billables and firm culture and the in-house company is a huge company where you can make moves in once you’re there.

My salary would be the same but I’d get better benefits and bonus opportunities in house. Plus I’m a mom and will have on-site childcare. Should I be scared that switching from litigation will be boring?

I graduated from law school in 2007, went to big law and was laid off in 2009 due to the Great Recession. I went back to school and got my LLM in tax, after a stint at big 4, I got back into big law but was asked to start over as a first year. Years later, close to partnership and being mentored in that direction, I lost my job due to something completely out of my control that I can’t get into. I always wanted to make partner, but I’m struggling at my new firm with not enough work (p. 1)

There is a partner at my firm who literally makes it seem like it is beneath him to even have to talk to you while giving you an assignment. Like I apologize that my existence is so taxing for you but thanks for the work. It’s not even like we have personal issues, he just completely lacks the ability not to make you feel like your presence is beneath him.

Hoping to make the jump from a boutique firm into federal government. I'm only a couple years into my career, but I've tailored my education and what experience I could towards government work. Any government attorneys out there who have any advice? I've applied to multiple federal jobs over the past year but I've had no luck. Recently a job came up that is right up my ally. It's basically my dream job, so I want to do everything I can to get it.

How does one get into underwriting in the western MA area? I have an associates degree in business and 5 years of insurance experience.
