It’s also probable that they’re interviewing/recruiting other candidates and want to see how those go first before deciding whether to make an offer or reject.
A possibility! But why not just say that then? Seems so tacky to just ignore a follow up.
My firm is still in the process of implementing/processing the budget, promotions, salary increases, bonuses etc. for calendar year 2020 and everything becomes effective on Feb. 1st, so very few new hires in January.
I don’t think they’d go through this entire process just to ghost someone, much less a partner - risking your reputation in the market instead of making a simple phone call to give someone news, good or bad. I’d wait a few more days.
I don’t have any insight on partner lateraling, but, for what it’s worth, we’d all do well to remember that, notwithstanding their cheerleading and moral support, recruiters don’t work for the lateral candidates; they work for the hiring firms.
Thanks! I should clarify- the recruiter is an employee/only works for this hiring firm. So in this case, it’s abundantly clear where the recruiter’s loyalties lie, and has been since my partner originally started the process. I’m more so shocked that an employee would risk the firm’s reputation by ghosting a lateral. But no matter who someone is or who they work for- it’s odd to me the lack of professionalism.
I agree with the above- they are probably interviewing other candidates, confirming budgets, etc. If they had definite news to communicate either way, they most likely would. That said, I’ve had some terrible experiences with recruiters and it wouldn’t entirely shock me if they were ghosting. Hopefully not though.
Curious because I initially thought you were referring to your significant other rather than your boss partner. Are you going with him/her? Some of the partners I work with would just leave in the middle of the night, but I hope some would talk to me before deciding
Whoops me too 😂 my comment still stands though
All signs were positive. Followed up in between holidays, and received a ‘holidays have us slowed down, trying to get things wrapped up’ response. Heard nothing after the holidays. Followed up last week for a second time with now response. How often are lateral candidates ghosted by law firms? I don’t expect anything at this point. But is it common for firms to ghost potential candidates like that or is it possible an offer could still be coming?
The firm’s time table is not your/your partner’s time table. I had a couple months go by between initial and second round interview at the firm where I ended up. If you have another firm in the mix, you might have some leverage to speed up the time table, but otherwise, I’d be patient, but engaged.
