Kicking the tires on Robins Kaplan. Anyone have any impressions about the firm/culture/reputation/whatever?
If you're interviewing at a firm that markets itself to laterals as a biglaw refuge with low billable requirements and quality of life is it okay to say in an interview that those are one of the reasons you're considering the firm?
Anyone actually keep their PHR active? I got my cert in 2013 and have done nothing since.
Does having parents/family members who are attorneys give someone a leg up either in law school or in the first year of practice?
This might be a dumb question so pls excuse my ignorance but do non-equity partners get bonuses? Is that a thing?
So the partner threatened to fire me because I don’t usually submit my timesheet daily (and I mean DAILY, he checks everyone’s timesheet at 9AM). I’m thinking about quitting because I think threatening termination for this type of pettiness is BS, and even the strictest firms I’ve worked at had a 72-hour policy. Is this common?
For those of you who spent the time and money to get the PHR or SHRM certifications, do you feel that it actually strengthened your professional capabilities as on HR professional, or did you just do it to fit into the “HR Professional” crowd?
Has anyone taken the PHR exam lately? What was the best test prep IYO? Online on demand , online live classes? Are the practice exams worth the cost?
Can anyone recommend a certificate or course that is actually useful for developing professionals and/or reviewing performance? I don’t want/need something that is just a credential, I’m actually looking to get some formal grounding in these two topics so I can overhaul processes at my consulting firm. Thanks for your advice!!!
I would like to help those wanting to shift careers in HR, minorities, or women going back to the workforce, learn workday coding and ultimately help them get a job in the space. Is there any interest?

After your DEI training what are the other things have you done to fill in the gaps? More training ? A speaker?
I love my job as an Asst. State’s Attorney and thought the pandemic would be relaxing, but it’s only overwhelmed my mid-sized office. The micromanaging, juggling multiple dockets, etc. and resolutions of nearly no cases..making a move to big firm is looking more attractive. Is it just me?
Has anyone seen or discussed this Petition for SHRM must support Black Lives Matter & the LGBTQ community? I’ve grown increasingly concerned and disappointed in SHRM’s lack of vocal support for employment protections for LGBTQ+ and black and brown workers, especially as a black woman in HR. It seems like SHRM is overly focused on what is absolutely “legal” and not what is right. I’m of the opinion HR professionals must not only be “legal” but have a relevant and compassionate stance
So, I’m currently interviewing for new job, and market is not bad, but I’m anxious and I am interviewing for every opportunity that comes my way (director/vp level, tech). Today, September 30 I received an invite for an initial interview for another opportunity. So I applied to this opportunity through networking on August 10 (!). It looks like a red flag for me and I’m thinking thankyounext, but again it’s covid time... Thoughts?

As an immigrant, I really wanted to come to America, find a good job, become a US citizen, and buy a house. Given everything that has been happening here in the past few years, are people now preferring to just become green card holders and not try to get US citizenship?
I’m getting so bored these days. I’m waiting for a security clearance before I start my new consulting job. I workout, read, watch TV shows, and study for the GRE. Any other ideas? COVID has put a damper on travel fun.
Any women here in hetero relationships in which your male partner is less ambitious/sharklike/wealth focused than you, with lower earning potential? I’m torn between a lifetime of programming telling me I’m settling vs my belief in gender equality and understanding of the benefits of a partner who might put my career first. I’d love to hear how others experience this “non-traditional” dynamic and how it’s worked in marriage once you combine finances and work together toward shared life goals.
