Why can’t the H1B-ers remain employed if their H1Bs expire? They can work remotely, what I’m saying is there is a workaround to not having to pay this amount which is an unreasonable amount to pay if the resource isn’t critical to the business. And no, I am not on H1B before anyone jumps down my throat.
This can only be done through Congress, not an executive order. But I’m sure feckless corporations will still pay it.

Well outsourcing is harming the local job market a lot more than H1B. This will encourage companies just to outsource more to balance the equation.

Nope - says renewals, transfers, etc aren’t immediately impacted, it’ll prob start with just new applications

An Indian Big 4 partner and the Indian client exe. want to cut costs. My US-based consulting firm just onboarded an offshore resouce remotely to replace me (a high performing US resource) with the pretext to save a few bucks. Saw the newsfeed over the weekend. This will be a very 'interesting' week indeed. Maybe I get to stay off the bench and keep my job. Folks, this is a real example what is happening on the ground level. This H1-B abuse by mostly Indian managers/ bodyshops, some US consulting shops, Tech firms and unhindged offshoring to lower cost locations need to be handled. I am for the spirites of the H1-B program. However, bad apples and abusing of the program have spoiled its original intention.
Just to close the loop that I started early. I am rolling off this Friday. Will transition my work to an offshore resource in India. The client is not happy. In the name of cost savings and an agreement behind the door, everyone 'went' along. I am so glad I am off the project.
