Let’s goooo!
Chief
This will be an interesting week for our leadership calls.
High time it stops being abused to bring in cheaper foreign workers
A lot of them also bring with them a toxic work culture and racism.

Not all H1Bs are abusing the system! Go after the companies that are abusing. Implement immigration reform thoughtfully not this blanket approach that impacts everyone even the truly high skilled worker who is contributing heavily.
Pro
I just wish it applied to renewals/transfers as well.
Why
Chief
Yes! I hope now people will stop blaming H1B for their lack of tech skills and not getting tech jobs ! Who’s next to blame ?
Chief
C1 - this is pretty much it.
People blamed, DEI from minority citizens, immigrants on H1B visas, etc. Ok, Trump removed the barriers. Now they can get into Google and Harvard right? Right?
At some point it’s a skill issue.
Looks like the Indian economy will take a dump with all those “qualified” specialists
Well, it only applies to new H1B applications next year.
Omg, pls stop with this cheap labor thingy. Average H1b salary is much more than avg American salary, that’s stat available publicly. So in a way this new change will be good for tech giants, they can hire cheap American and no need to pay more than their avg salary of 60k 🤣
And it’s not just about the cheaper labor. They bring a toxic work culture and racism as well.
burn down h1-b
EO signed now https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-h1b-visa-bill-100000-fee/
Alongside the fee, the proclamation or policy guidance directs the Secretary of Labor to raise prevailing wage levels for H-1B workers. This is meant to ensure that H-1Bs are not paid below certain “market” or U.S. worker wages.
It’s interesting because he did it in his first term in 2016 and it had an effect until it was struck down in 2021.
Basically they want to make it really unappealing for companies to hire outside the US
Crazy concept

Good. Now they need to force the ones already here to all reapply. Don’t stop till we get them all out.
Next on the agenda should be an excise offshoring tax. Look up the HIRE Act proposed recently. Hopefully this gets more traction as well.
Pour one out for your firm’s immigration lawyers
Gonna be a long weekend
rest in pieces ⚰
Good
But hey, will Americans win spell-bee now?
But they do win the maximum gold medals in Olympics every year
Asian Indians are less than 2% of the US population. This EO will cause a lot of heart ache to a lot of people but isn’t going to solve an employment problem
No, but every job helps
Somehow this could help Europe catch up, all our talent flies to the US for the bigger paycheck, so many bright European minds have helped the US become what it is today...
lol, the US is in the dumps… not sure if that was the praise you’d thought it would be.
Does it mean every employer who have H1b workers need to pay a fee of $100,000 per year? Or per H1b employee? Since the first one doesn’t seem like a big deal for most of the tech giants or B4 consulting firms.
What M1 said….likely the goal is to stop 99% of h1b visa employees by applying a ~100% tariff on the price of the service
