Update:
$172k
$5k signing bonus
20 days PTO instead of 15.
Bonus eligible after promotion to senior counsel (1 year)
I accepted.
Thanks!
I'm a nonlawyer, privacy consultant.
Having worked previously in entertainment media, beginning senior privacy analysts were in the 145-180k range.
The CPO and BISOs were at least 300k, and DPOs were above 220k.
155k is insulting. 🥴
Update: sent counteroffer
$200k
$24k signing (bonus id forego leaving my current firm)

What market?
@AA1. I want it, but not bad enough to be taken advantage of like this.
What kind of role—privacy attorney? And how big is the team more or less? That’s a pretty low TC in a VHCOL. Ideally you’d have another offer to use as leverage. You could also rely on various reports of median salary for in house privacy roles and/or job listings of comparable roles at comparable companies. Might be useful to understand the promotion timeline and if comp changes over time (e.g., access to equity or bonuses).
Thank you for your input! I am going to counter and see what they say.
I'd run. 155k is off. The floor should be 200k.
This isn't a great offer, do they want you or not?
I agree. I am going to counter with $200k and back it up with data I’ve compiled showing salary points for similar roles at other employers, averages in the industry and factor in lack of annual bonus/equity (which I’ve never heard of that for counsel not getting annual bonus of at least 10%).
Rooting for you, but you are coming in way above offer. My guess is you’d be lucky to get met in the middle.
I’d honestly be fine with meeting in the middle!
