It completely depends but we have the same TC and family size and love our life in LA. We feel like we are already on vacation a lot of the time.
Replying to this to say that my spouse and I have similar TC to you and we lived in west LA (Culver City) when we had only 1 kid. We now have 3 kids and live in the valley. We only moved to be closer to my husbands job but that has ceased to be a factor. I highly recommend LA - there are several places you could live on the west side or close by and have a very enjoyable setup. Plus you can’t beat the weather.
Boston is exceptional if you anticipate having a very boring lifestyle. It’s a soulless and stifling place otherwise.

If you have that salary and a car. Move to LI, NY. Good schools, but high taxes. Or Westchester ny. Both only a train ride to the city.
Yeah you can ignore this advice, OP. The city is very safe overall, and you can mostly avoid a few neighborhoods at odd hours and be fine.
