First, congrats. I truly wish you well and admittedly am slightly jealous.
Second, as of today, I CAN RETIRE!!! I am fully eligible. But I’m not. Since you asked “but why,” I still enjoy what I am doing and the difference I still make. Plus I still have two kids not settled and a wife who needs to get in two more years. So life goes on. And for the next two years, two full incomes beat pension money. But knowing that I can jump ship at any time for any reason brings a BIG smile to my face.
Unfortunately, I will be 60 this year and still need to work and am having a very difficult time finding a job. I have a bachelors and am considering alternative teaching certification, but am not sure it’s worth it anymore because I hear there are so many changes.
Lucky duck! I’m so happy for you. I have two more years. I will be 59 and 1/2…35 years of service. I hope to never work another day in my life. I am training a service dog and hope to visit hospitals, schools and nursing homes. Throw in some traveling…time with family and friends and that should cover the next 20 years
Five days for me, then I'm done...31.5 years. I love my kids still, but some parents are ridiculous. I've been blessed to have had the pleasure of having an occupation that has been my passion and basically my life. But, on to something else now...
I'm with you, it isn't worth it.
