Rising Star
They’d be Arkansas without us.

Also they’ve wanted to do this for years and never have.
Give us to Canada 🇨🇦
I think this dates back to the Tea Party craze from 15 years ago. Things like this popped up around the country, and none of them ever amounted to anything. It was mostly a bunch of weirdos in tricorn hats spouting gibberish. Would be interesting if one of these schemes ever came to fruition, but of course it won't.

I mean, I’m tempted to let them go. They’re my family is in the middle of the state and then all those counties who want to stay in Illinois who are around the chunk that when I get away that’ll be complicated but yeah, I think a year or two without the money our city and county spring would devastate the parts of Illinois that tried to succeed

Ultimately 75% of the economic output of this state is produced in Chicagoland, which should come as no shock or surprise to anybody.
For every $1 a Cook County resident pays in taxes, they get 88¢ of value back in public benefits. For the suburban counties it's even worse, they get 58¢ back for every $1 they pay in taxes.
Downstate, they get $1.70 back for every $1 they put in, on average. If you just count the southernmost 19 counties, it's $2.88.
These counties would, if they secede, form the poorest state in the union, or an economic burden no neighboring state would wish to take on.
