You may have dodged a bullet. Doesn’t sound like a great culture
I would contact them and ask where your're at in the process. I would not immediately come down. Talk to a person and confirm they still have the job. If the number was too high get them admit that then offer a concession like a cash sign on bonus or extra time off.
#1) A verbal offer is conjecture unless written and documented.
#2) It's the first month of Q1. No department(s) of any major company knows their quarterly or annual budgets yet... it's a serious risk on their part to negotiate 7k over their verbal agreement.
#3) The high end of the range may have said $110k/year, but that could have been an incentive just to get applications
#4) The pay band is intended to match on the low, mid, and highly end based on qualification(s) and potential income stream you would be as an employee and you might just not be qualified enough by their standards.
Personally, I usually don't even begin to negotiate salary until I've gotten their initial offer in a written form. It's a waste of your time fighting for a hypothetical and not the tangible...
Agreed.
In the future I would respond to verbal offers with a Great, I will wait for the official offer to assess further. & thennnn you can consider negotiations.
But yah, agree with everything JLL1 said. Just bc high end is 110 doesn’t mean you automatically qualify for that and it also doesn’t mean they’re even willing to hire anyone at that rate.
So… you can reach back out but if they don’t respond after a couple attempts just learn and move on.
They probably won't respond even if she reaches out. Salary is usually negotiable - once if you're early in your career; up to 2 times if you're bringing in a lot of experience at a more senior level, and as many times as needed to get to a satisfactory number if you're coming in at an executive level.
So rescinding simply because of one counter-offer is usually a bad sign on any company/or at, the minimum, the team you'd be joining.
I'll only try to resurrect this if I absolutely need a job. If not, just move on an keep applying.
If you must resurrect, just send them a short follow up email indicating that the offer falls within your acceptable range even though on the lower end but that you're willing to accept, etc.
Best of luck but I would blacklist this company if it were to be me.
Sounds like you dodged a bullet here. If they’re willing to lowball you like that and demand an answer same day or they’ll rescind — not sure I’d want to work for that company. I know this macro environment is difficult, but you can’t stop negotiating for the value that you’ll bring to the table.
But, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with reaching back out — in my humble opinion I don’t think they’ll be too receptive. Sounds like they might’ve went with an internal candidate, maybe? However, if they are receptive and you’re unemployed, at least it’ll be a job to pay the bills while you sort out if this is the right company for you.
Hope this helps.
Why are you wasting time asking us? Email them or call them. What do you have to lose ? I’m surprised they rescinded the offer over 7k.
If they rescinded for negotiating, they really didn't want you bad enough to pay it.
from Dugg, HEO. are their any bonuses or overtime hours? you might be at that salary. they are looking 14k you get 7k + 7k bonuses and OT!
