Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

If you are a normal functioning human being with understanding of human interactions and empathy who gets the job done, 3-4 years. 90% of SMs have a rock for brain though in that case 5-8 years
Way to generalize. Plus not all SMs aspire to be MDs and can land at L5.
There is no universal ‘typical’. It depends on the group, the role, how the overall business functions, how you function, and how much growth is expected in the business area over the next few years. Minimum time is 36 months from SM to MD, but that is really exceptional (right role, growing group, and all the client & external non-controllable factors go right). More general range is 5-7 years. Can be longer than that, depending on circumstances.
I’ve heard 3 years up or out...
Can be ages.
Someone just got MD after 8 years at SM so it’s different for everyone
I was told 5 years is the expectation by a recruiter. Oddly enough ... I know an ACN SM that was one for 9 years before leaving on their own
SM can be a landing spot, so there is no hard and fast rule. I also know several people who prefer being an SM and will stay at that level indefinitely. Alas, no clear answer. If you want to make that career progression, talk with your CC and DTE leadership. They will know best both what the progression is and what you should focus on to succeed.
