I agree. Option 3.
Option #3. I had a similar situation of starting a new position when I decided to start trying and I let the boss know I was trying to start a family…..and then infertility crushed all my plans…and how embarrassing it was when the boss followed up several years later with, “weren’t you trying to start a family? Did you change your mind??” …and that was only the start of horribly embarrassing questions about me TTC. Even if it wasn’t infertility that changed my plans I wish I had saved myself the awkwardness of people wanting to know the intimate details of my reproductive system.
However, now that this role has come up - and if I am successful in getting an offer, I will need to weigh up the following options:
(Option 1) Stay where I am (although don’t feel too fulfilled) and take advantage of corporate maternity benefits (based in UK)
(Option 2) Move forward with new offer (company is only about 30 people) but transparently share I would like to start trying for a family in the next year. I feel this is fair as its a small company based in UK
(Option 3) Move forward with offer and not share my personal circumstances.
Would appreciate any advice or insights! Really grateful for you all.
Option 3. Just because you are planning to try doesn't mean you'll immediately conceive, and even if there are laws and policies to prevent discrimination, it still happens and you don't need to deal with that. Good luck with both the job and family!
Definitely option3. I was in similar circumstances a while ago about starting a family but didn’t pivot career field. I choose to stick to corporate due to reasons on maternity benefits in the US, but if you’re given a great opportunity to pivot career positions then go for it and stick to option #3. Factor to consider would include people you work with/report to. There are regulations that protect pregnant women and maternity leave so don’t stress too much, but whatever works the best for you and your family’s needs and situation. Good luck!
Option 3 or maybe 1. Def not 2 IMO.
Option 3.
