After investing time in multiple interview stages and a take-home task, the offer came in well below the midpoint of the salary band they posted. Their feedback was that the range covers a wide spectrum and they consider me closer to the entry side of it. For context, I bring 7 years of experience. I’m curious how others here have handled situations where the offer doesn’t align with the published range. Were you able to move it meaningfully?

I think the initial offer carries the expectation that you're going to negotiate a decent amount. You can always come back and reference your seven years of experience and whatever credentials you have in order to move the needle.

That’s fair. I understand initial offers often assume negotiation. My concern is the gap between the posted midpoint and the actual offer given my seven years of relevant experience. I plan to revisit it with a case tied to scope and market data. In your experience, do employers usually move meaningfully in situations like this?

Did the recruiter you worked with talk about compensation expectation with you prior to you interviewing and talk about what you were targeting? If not, shame on them. There is something to be said about companies that low ball in my opinion.

Compensation expectations did come up early in the process, and I shared a range aligned with the posted band. That’s part of why the final number caught me off guard. I understand companies need to manage budgets and internal leveling, but alignment upfront is important for both sides.
From your perspective, do you see this more as a leveling decision internally, or a negotiation strategy to test flexibility?

7 years of relevant experience as it relates to the role you're applying for? If not, then it don't matter. If yes, then definitely renegotiate. Their published range is just that, a range. If they offered at the low end of the range, I'm sure there's a reason. It may not match your expectations but it's a starting point. Good luck.

Well said , thanks for the opinion

Does anyone have experience interviewing with Deloitte Internal Services? I had my final interview a week and a half ago, and received positive feedback throughout. The hiring manager had positive things to say and mentioned they hoped to make a decision by the end of last week. It’s now Friday the week after. The role still shows as “Interviews in Process.” We did discuss potential start dates, but no salary. Any experience with receiving offers for an internal services role? Is this common?

I flunked out of school and had no options when I joined the army. I hated every second of my time in, and spent all my weekends getting as drunk as possible.

Now that I’m out, I graduated with my BA in Econ, got a job I love, and somehow got into an M7 Bschool with a 670 GMAT. I look back on my time in and laugh, and still talk with some of my old army buddies (though not as often anymore)

Amazing how time can change your perspective, because 10 years ago I never thought I’d be here.
