After Rolex and AP which brands do people think hold their value well in the secondary market. I thought VC was good but looking at the data doesn’t seem close to the top 2

Rolex only holds its value because of the false scarcity game the brand plays. If you buy in the secondary market at a decent price, most watches will hold their value. Much like a new car, the biggest depreciation hit comes when you leave the shop with a new watch. If you want data, check out watchcharts.com.

Yeah, agree with other comments, the brands are of less importance than the specific models. The secondary market is pretty transparent (though Chrono24 is only showing asking prices). My advice is to find a good gray market person to work with.

Even Rolex and AP have models that decline in value in the secondary market - they have select halo models that hold value or increase. The only other brands I can think of is FP Journe. Patek also has models that lose value. Having said that, all of these brands hold value better than other brands, who will depreciate much more

Your best bet is going to be low production microbrands - most of the ones are going to be many multiples more expensive than those two companies (e.g., Journe, akrivia, Phillipe dufour, Murakumo, etc.) things most of us won’t ever be able to get even with significant spend histories

Correct - anything where supply is constrained. Dufour has made maybe 300 watches total in 30 years. Grönefeld makes runs of 188 mechanisms (and has stopped taking new orders even for unlimited pieces). Akrivia/Rexhep rarely comes up. If you need to sell those, you’ll find a buyer.

Watches aren't investments, so I wouldn't worry about which ones hold value the best and just get the one you like

Like a car, buying preowned will save you quite a bit on depreciation and you’ll never have to ask the question “does it hold value well?”

Only buy new if you’re going to play the AD game.

Hey ZSers,

I have been selected into ZS for the BTAC role under CCM(Customer-Centric Marketing). My YOE is 3.8 in Cognizant, and the domain is ETL, DW, cloud(AWS).

My question is, ZS is giving a great package compared to what I have in Cognizant (Above 100% hike), and Cognizant is ready to retain me by giving somewhere 50%-60% hike. Will ZS be a good choice for me to switch? In terms of growth, technologies, work, pay. Or should I accept what cognizant is giving and get retained?

Any advice on where to go after PR (financial & healthcare)? I have one year of experience and have been pretty disappointed with my current agency. I have a been actively interviewing & was thinking to go into the sales route. I graduated in 2021 and really have no idea where I want to end up. I’ve been talking to people & networking trying to figure out next steps— could use some insight. The culture at my current agency isn’t the best & the pay is basically unlivable for NYC. Any thoughts?

What’s the best thing I could buy for my old man’s birthday for about $10k? Would go Rolex (since he knows Rolex) but would prefer new, which limits my options there. Looking for something a little sporty, with a bracelet, and waterproof (100m should suffice). Nothing bombastic like a Panerai, but something a little more exciting than say a Datejust? And not Grand Seiko - he’s gonna think it’s like $50 and lose it :(

Sorry if this has been asked before but anyone have recommendations for brands that typically have a thiner profile? I’m shopping around for a piece in the $1k-$2k range (willing to buy pre owned).

I’m seeing prices for watches that used to depreciate heavily pre-2020 - but suddenly began to hold value because of the Rolex craze - tank like crazy. IWC, Panerai, Omega etc. you name it. Finally!!!!

30th birthday present watch accessory ideas.

A lot of knowledge on here so asking for some help. It’s my partner’s birthday and I’ve no idea what to buy him. He’s a watch fanatic - Pateks (sports and dress), Audemars (sports and dress), Rolex (sports), Omega (sports).

I’m obviously not buying him a watch for his birthday (in his dreams!) but any idea for some good accessories? He’s already got a PP watch winder, and has bought multiple nice straps for the dress watches. I’m completely lost.

Finally got my hands on one. I was expecting it to feel much cheaper than it does. Definitely still get the quality feel that Swatch is known for. The weight is nothing like a real speedy, but still looks great imo. I went with the Mission to Pluto as I didn’t want one that looks too much like the real thing, and the Mars/Sun versions had the gauche white strap imo. Overall pleased for $260.
