Am I crazy that I want to take a fully remote role over another offer that has a 10% higher salary but 5 days at the office?

The first role is a senior accountant at Public company, fully remote, I felt this might be the exit opportunity I had always been waiting for.

The other offer I had is a fund accountant with a 10% higher salary but 5 days at the office, the commute isn't too bad, 25 to 30 mins each way, but I felt the 10% salary not worth it compared to the fully remote job.

Most people who like remote working would rather do that than spend the extra 10% commuting. I personally don't like 100% remote work, but wouldn't be interested in 5 days a week in the office requirement regardless of pay. Hybrid is best.

What's the long-term impact of being 100% remote? Sad to say, but remote workers are often the first to be let go in a restructuring or downturn. Out of sight, out of mind is real. Good luck in your new role, whichever you end up in.

like

I would for sure take the remote role. The time adds up commuting and well worth a 10% difference in salary

like

Many people would probably take the remote role instead of having to drive into an office 5 days per week.

The extra 10% may not cover the gas and maintenance of your vehicle going into the office 5 days per week.

like

That’s a no brainer. Take the remote gig.

like

Do it! You will spend that 10% increase on fuel and wear and tear on your vehicle.

like

1 hour commuting per day x 5 days per week x 49 weeks per year = 245 hours per year. Also, clothing costs for in person, additional gas and wear and tear on the car. Could you use Uber vs owning a car if you did remote? I work remote due to all the above items. Your incremental earnings are at the highest tax brackets as well.

like

Why is that crazy? Choosing remote work over a 10% pay bump isn’t some wild or unreasonable stance. Let’s stop acting like valuing flexibility and well-being is unrealistic or "crazy" as you put it.

like

I think you’ll probably come out ahead on the remote role!

Only you can make that decision. If you don't mind the smaller paycheck then go for it. No one can make a personal judgement about someone else. You would know if you made the right choice by how you handle that smaller check.
I hate borrowing money and using credit unless I can get away with no interest. I like spending time with family, too but like treating them to nice things.
Only you can see how it fits for you.

No!

like

No. Considering you would most likely lose that 10% annually on fuel and vehicle maintenance, as well as your time commuting.

I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Anyways, the pay was intriguing and the job was a high level scientific advisor so I did interviews. At the last interview, at the end I was told the job was for management but I prepared for a different kind of interview. I am waiting for an offer or rejection letter. I feel peeved that they wasted my time. Red flags?

Science and art are completely intertwined as I see it; color theory, composition, and balance all coming together to create a cohesive whole. Thoughts?

Studied accounting and finance but worried about the future of this profession. Currently working in Forensic Consulting but want to leave. Should I go back to undergrad and get a computer science degree? I honestly want a career where I could at least potentially make 600 k per year. I feel in accounting it’s near impossible. Additionally, I’m sick of people looking down on me. My gf is getting a PhD in a social science and gets way more respect then me. I am 25 also. HELP
