You’re expected to give up way more than just weekend availability lol
You’ll also have to give up custody of your first born to KPMG
I absolutely hate the busy season concept. My first year in audit, I remember we left early on Friday because we knew we’d be back Saturday and Sunday. 80 hours is 80 hours. We can squeeze it into 5 days to let people enjoy their weekend or we can continue this cycle of ruining weekends and gaslighting people into thinking it’s noble. Clearly I lost and am no longer in audit.
Good luck with changing this dynamic
yep please update by end of each day during busy season, thank
Depends what you’re on but likely some of it yes. You have to realize why you’re working the weekend. Typically we work weekends and want others to work part of weekends on our engagements because as managers and senior managers we see what’s to come over the next several weeks, timing of it all, resource constraints, etc. We realize staff and early seniors don’t anticipate this stuff and so we push you to complete things early so that we as reviewers don’t have 1,000 things to review at once with little time left.
I'd imagine at KPMG you would. If they expect you to work 10 hours on the weekend and you have something going on one of those days, depending on your team they might expect everyone to work on the same days
Yea what the above said. I usually expected 6-10 hours of billable from staff and seniors on the weekends. I mean if you can hit your budgeted billable Monday-Friday then sure take the weekend off but if something is time sensitive and I don’t get to review it until Friday afternoon due to my own time constraints so you may have to logon during the weekend to finish it and have it ready for Monday review. It’s really a 2 way street of communication with your managers and incharges.
I obtained my degree in Accounting Sciences in 2017 and completed a specialization in Financial Analysis in 2018 through UQAM (distance learning). I have been living in the United States for the past two years and would like to know if it is possible to pursue my goal of obtaining the CPA license here.
Please note that I have professional experience in the banking sector and in the public market as an auditor. I would greatly appreciate your guidance or any advice on the steps I should take to achieve this objective.
Get that DNA sample and kidney ready.
It used to be assumed that you would be available 24/7 during busy season - even on the weekends. Now a lot of team leaders will try to work with you to accommodate your personal plans, so yes, let them know your availability.
If it’s tax, it def depends on your team. We have a tab in our tracking spreadsheet that says what everyone’s busy season hours are and we communicate amongst each other for specially planned things during busy season. Expect to have to work on the weekend sometimes is basically my point
Sorry, but yes.
