Am I making the right decision!! I am pregnant with my second and my work is now getting into very long hours schedule for the next few months! I am mentally exhausted and my 18months old needs me all the time. After so many discussions, we decided it is best for me to take a break form working and take the role of stay home mom for next few years! I am so scared, will I ever recover from not being the working mother and will I have the energy to join back after three years? Stepping back feels

I don’t think you will regret spending time with your little ones when they are small. I took 1 year off with both of my children (normal in the UK) and it was great. Work will always be there

So scary at the same time I am excited to think of going to all the classes with my daughter, and spend more time with her, cook, and plan her days!! Before the second one comes!! I want to be with her and give her the best few months. I worry about how she will share the attention and love

Loved seeing this post as I am planning to do the same in a few months. I am feeling the same uncertainty you are. My therapist recommended reading The Power Pause by Neha Ruch in advance of my planned career break. I’ve only just cracked it open, but reading about the experiences of other moms in a similar position has brought me a lot of peace. There are also prompts to help you with the transition.

Wishing you a wonderful remainder of your pregnancy and career break!

If you’re in a position to do it and still be in a decent financial position, go for it!
If you like your job and think that you may want to return to it, or to something in the same industry, have an honest conversation with your manager about what you are thinking about doing and why, do your best to stay on excellent terms with people from work, check in, meet occasionally for coffee, etc. This will help to try to leave the door open for a few future opportunities there or anywhere else that your colleagues wind up. Do your best to stay sharp and keep up with industry news, maintain any certifications or licenses you have if applicable/possible.

Hey you, weary teacher, I see you.
I hear you sigh,
eyes closed,
Head in your hands...

I know the things you think,
the doubts,
fears,
the frustrated pain...

I know you are trying.
I know you work hard.
Sometimes it seems like you’re the only one
in the whole damn school who cares...

I know.
I see.
I hear.
I care.

You are the difference.
You are power.
Through you flows the future.
You author the stories of the world.

I care about the tale you are creating.
Please keep writing. Please.

Hey fishes, let's do a poll!
What would you prefer between these two?
1. Great wlb, decent if not so good pay
2. Great pay, poor wlb

Edit: you are welcome to include a one liner reason supporting your choice.
I am trying to understand how people prioritise life & work.
Thanks in advance.

Applied for a Director role in industry without realizing their Director = our manager. Had a call with HR that said their salary band is $20-30k below my current. They are requesting an interview with hiring manager, who is a lot less experienced than I am. Should I email them now to let know I am not interested or go through it?

Hello all - I have been offered a role with a big 4 in Canada for the "Manager" level. Since, it is a new market, I am unaware of the salary benchmark and big4 pay range in Canada.

It would be of great help if you could assist with the pay range for a Manager working for a big4 in Canada? I do have a ball park figure in mind, after researching a bit online. But, if anyone actually knows that pay range in Canada, please let me know.

Trying to set family expectations and would love thoughts on 2 things. 1. How long after baby will I be ready for visitors beyond our parents? I’m thinking a few weeks. 2. Can’t predict the future but family is already talking about trips and I want to set expectations and do what is best for baby. TIA!!

How did you tell your manager you’re pregnant? Did it affect pay/promos? And then, subsequently, how did you start letting colleagues know you’re pregnant? Feels awkward to just randomly drop the news in a meeting! I work remotely so it’s hard to tell by video :) I’m 21 weeks and feel like I’ve waited as long as I can to at least notify my manager. I was waiting to negotiate my salary for next year but per company trend that doesn’t get set until January (manager reviews are written in Dec).

Did you do the NIPT? I just had my first prenatal appt and they scheduled me for the NIPT at 10 weeks. I’m a little nervous and anxious. Did anyone get it and got a false positive? Do you not recommend it? I wish I could ask family but we’re not telling anyone until the 12 weeks mark.
