Really sorry this is happening to you. I ended up in the same boat just last week. If you want to consider next steps (legal rights etc, please DM me and I can provide you with some of the stuffs I have already taken)
Transferring h1B is ideally the best but I highly suggest exploring as many options as possible with an attorney. Also talk to different attorneys too if you can!
Any suggestions on finding good lawyers and also not blowing a ton of money?
Thanks everyone.. I got it confirmed.. it’s the last day of service provided to the employer and not the last day of the severance, if people were wondering. Also, the h1b 60 days are still valid to find a new job. You can also move to another visa with change of status if that fits your situation.
Is it severance or salary continuation? If it’s continuation, counter doesn’t start till 5 week. That’s my understanding but take legal opinion. If you are being paid a salary, company can’t justify paying you if you are not on rolls.
I am happy to refer you at PwC. Not sure if there’s a hiring freeze but we can always give it a try
OP - today is my last day with 5 weeks severance. They called severance sale as salary continuation. While talking with immigration expert, they said that 60 days start tomorrow itself and not after 5 weeks. I am planning to talk with an external law firm to clarify this.
You were right D3 .. it starts on the day you discontinue and not the last day of severance
I'm so sorry OP! :( When is your last day on payroll? That would typically be your last day. You should also receive a letter from your employer confirming the last day of your employment. Typically companies don't revoke H1b application for the next 60 days, which is the "grace period". Confirm this with your immigration team.
Also what is your level of experience OP? My firm is looking for a Senior Manager in Analytics (non consulting, but health tech).
Thanks PM1, but overall I only have 5 years of exp.. Applying to SM level would be a stretch.. but thanks for offering the help :)
Sorry to hear that. Usually its 60 days from the day of separation. What level were you at, and what practice?

I’m sorry. your HR/legal team might know best
It is today
Didn’t Deloitte stop lying off last week? Why are they still laying off? Which office were you in?
