Be respectful and try your best to complete all your work and let your team know where everything stands. We’ve had staff/ seniors/ managers leave and some would make sure they had all their ducks in a row and others that just checked out. The Partners always seem to remember who made the transition easy and which ones left a steaming pile of crap to sort through. Those partners could be the ones giving references or referrals so it’s just a good idea not to burn a bridge if possible.

Friendly reminder: all the ambient holly jolly just makes things harder on folks who are already down or struggling.

If you don’t think you know anyone like this — check on your boys/girls.

If this is someone you know, reach out to them specifically.

If this is you, feel free to drop me a line. We can talk about literally anything you’d like. Or just trade memes.

How soon do you follow up after an interview? My interviewers told me to follow up with HR after a few days if I don't hear anything, but I hate being pushy.

So.. if I put in my notice and they let me go immediately due to going to a competitor (I heard that pwc pays for the two weeks regardless) - can I immediately start at the new job? Wouldn’t that mean that I am on both payroll for two weeks? Is that an issue?

I got an email on Friday at 1:30 asking for my availability this week for an interview and I responded back Saturday at 11:30 and sent the recruiter an email letting him know I responded and I was looking forward to the interview but I haven’t heard back. Is this a bad sign or am I overthinking it?

Have you ever given honest feedback to a company when leaving? For example the d&i initiatives leadership is taking has lead to joking about common racial stereotypes in office whenever an update is sent. I’m not used to those comments being said so freely for all to hear and fear they’d hire a minority (as part of those initiatives) in my place and subject them to that. I’m not sure what there is to gain but wanted to get other points of view.

Accepted an offer recently (last week) and haven’t heard back from the HR regarding a confirmed start date (we discussed dates but didn’t nail down in offer letter) or background check, is this stuff that normally takes time to get set up? Thanks

Has anyone made the leap from Corporate accounting/Financial reporting to something more niche like Revenue Reporting? I work in SEC reporting but want to work somewhere more diverse/fast paced/in the saas world and am considering a revenue reporting manager position at a tech company.

I haven’t worked in revenue before and am not super familiar with 606 so I don’t know if I would flop but I’m a CPA with 8+ yes experience (mix of PA/corporate experience)

If I’m making 65k in my first year of audit, should I jump ship now before I reach senior for a job as a “senior accountant” with 85-95k comp? Or should I wait until I reach senior associate and then jump to the same 90-100k range?

likefunny

Just apply. Good vibes to you all this late Thursday night.

More than likely receiving an offer for a more technical position than I’d like in my career. In short, I think it pigeonholes me into a role I’m not comfortable with and have little interest for.
How do I politely reject the offer when it comes through?

Has this happened to anyone? Where you go through the interview process - and they call you back saying you did great in the interview and that you'd be a great fit but the role has been filled. So they are going to pass you to other hiring managers and see if you'd be a good fit in the other teams? I'm so confused.

Ok fishbowl family - I need advice. Rising senior 1 here and realizing that I genuinely get no joy out of audit. I’m way too stressed and really do not care about accounting and have made it a life goal to never book a journal entry. I want to take the next year to figure out what my dream job is and go for it. Here’s what I like: I love talking to people, mentoring & teaching, organizing, learning. I literally loved everything in college- I was between majoring in accounting or psychology. 1/X

I applied at this company and last Friday they verified my references. And then 4 days later hiring manager sets up a phone conversation letting me know they still have other finalist they are interviewing and will let me know when t they make a decision. I really wanted this job and now idk if I’ll even get it. But my question, why would she verify my references and not offer me the job!is that normal ? This never happened to me before 😞

My glowing review, complete with the “It’s not a matter of ‘if’ you’ll make partner, but ‘when’” line, resulted in a $4,000 salary increase. For the third year in a row.

I billed 200 more hours than last year and earned another certification. Now at $76k in a low to mid COL area. Top 25 firm.

Is it time to jump ship?

How hard is it to move from audit to internal audit / risk advisory? Are the hours better? Willing to switch firms if it’s easier to do so.
I do enjoy audit but this life is not sustainable.
