Any advice for someone making the jump from big law to work as an AUSA?

It's been said that the AUSAs they hire should be capable of investigating and charging the most powerful people in their jurisdictions, such as fortune 500 CEOs, US senators and the like. This means you'll be pitted against the best lawyers in the country. These cases do come up and they will make or break your career. Not everyone can handle the scrutiny or attention and they want to know if you've been in situations like that. Most of us haven't and so they hire the people that have come close to that, such as prosecutors handling major death penalty cases, or civil litigators handling bet the company type cases.

It's helpful to have a boss or someone in your firm that was a former ausa to get you familiar with the internal workings of the office you're looking at. Each office, though part of DOJ, is run differently based on the caseloads they get.

If you're in biglaw you probably have done a federal clerkship so get your judge to put in a good word for you. That does matter in getting in the door.

If you're willing to work in a smaller city or area without a law school nearby, you stand a better chance of getting hired, so be willing to travel.

I work heavily in AWS and am looking to learn another cloud platform. I have zero knowledge of azure and gcp and would like input on which to learn. Azure would make sense since its the second largest in terms of market share, but GCP seems far more interesting and technically challenging with things like Kubernetes and BigQuery.

Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

If people are getting fired from companies only.because they are on bench for more than 3 months, is it wise approach to switch with higher salary now?

Please list companies who are firing people or asking them to resign so that we get a fair idea of which company to join?

Any offices make a statement about BLM?

Scenario: my state has a 3 yr statutory rape law, this case involves 3 yrs 4 month bf and gf. It’s never been alleged, nor based on the facts is it alleged to be non-consensual or coercive. The parents of the victims aren’t pushing for it either. I’m a new ADA, and shadowing, so I need some advice on alternatives to the strict statutory punishment. I was encouraged by another bowl to challenge the system and my DA has also encouraged it as well, but does anyone have advice?

How do you negotiate your salary with big DA offices? Do we just have to wait for bonuses across the board or is it possible to negotiate your own salary increase?
