These absolutely can be grouped. Go with your gut, as these two are definitely correlated. Hence your company grouping them. They’re broad, so it may help to have some specifics. A general overview of the job requirements could help :).
Thank you and sorry for being vague. I am from a technical background myself but get a bit rusty for interview question since I only use a small portion of knowledge at work. Looking for DS learning material to refresh my knowledge and hopefully fill in some gaps.
Well the first thing to jot down is analytics and data science are two completely different career paths and shouldn’t be grouped
Thanks guys, I understand that the title these days are a bit confusing. To clarify the job I am looking for is more on Data Science track.
I would recommend Ace the Data Science Interview. That will set you up for any technical questions you could get and give you a very solid foundation of Data Science you can speak to.
Thank you, I will check it out
Data science and data analytics are different but related. Data analytics is a lower barrier to entry and that’s usually where most people start. Check out Avery Smith and Data Career Jumpstart. He helps people in completely different fields land their first data job in just a few months. I definitely recommend landing a data analytics job first and then transitioning from a data analyst to another data role like data scientist later on if that’s what you want. To become a data analyst you need to know Excel, SQL, and a BI tool (Tableau or Power BI but Tableau is better)
Thank you for clarifting. I did get confused with the title because I was under the wrongly impression that DS are grouped into analytics in consulting. I am looking for DS roles. I come from a technical background myself, but after working for a while I feel like I am getting rusty with interview questions and hope to find a refresher & fill in some knowledge gaps.
Sorry for the confusion guys. Definitely will be more precise. I am looking for DS jobs. Appreciate the help!
Take a look at Introduction to Statistical Learning with Python. The R version has been out for a long time but the Python version just came out! Many consider it one of the best data science textbooks
