@EY1 what kind of app is this then? I was under the impression it was a forum to share ideas and trade insights anonymously between people in a similar career. Seems like "where do I live?" falls into that category.

Depends on your definition of decent and also your definition of the Bay Area. You can maybe find something decent for this price in like, Walnut Creek. Or way south, closer to San Jose. But decent studio for under 2k in SF is less likely. You might be able to find an indecent one though, lol.

Just moved to Burlingame (above San Mateo). It's damn near impossible to find something that cheap if you want to have your own room. Maybe sublease under someone or room with someone.
I would second the Walnut Creek recommendation. You should be able to find something under $2,000 within walking distance to BART. From there it's ~40 minutes into the financial district and round trip costs ~$11(+3 parking). It has a decent downtown and night life, but it's also easy to get into SF for that scene. The living spaces near BART also have a fairly young crowd from what I've heard (few friends living in the buildings). Berkeley is also popular, and cheaper, but a less nice area. I'm less familiar with it, so hopefully others can comment.
Berkeley isn't as nice as Walnut Creek, but definitely a younger crowd and much more walkable/better public transit. Source: I went to Cal
Agree re Walnut Creek/Concord and they have great running paths all over. Could also be in South SF or possibly Burlingame.
Oakland and east Palo Alto.. Not necessarily the safest though
