Hello, I have a question that needs your inputs how to handle. I am working with a post-MBA Associate on a project and this person seems to do extra work beyond what the team is asking the rest of us to do. I think during our conversations with the leadership, there were a couple of points that were brought up by the MD but that was not a concrete directive that we need to do because if it is, I would know about it from the chain email since I am staffed to the project.

Have you reached out to them or just inquire about the last task that was submitted to get an idea if it’s intentional or perhaps just doing it for brownie Points ?
Could be subtle like “thanks, I didn’t realize this was requested. Can you please loop me in so I can keep apprised about the current communication?” Could be that it wasn’t intentional.
Think it’s always best for the associate to have an open dialogue given you both are partners on the staffing.
@A1 I have not talked to that person yet and I will plan on talking to them in person. 🙏

Who cares if they are doing extra work to look good? As long as it doesn’t affect your work product / quality / reputation, this should not matter. MBA associates always do this kind of stuff…before they realize going above and beyond is generally a waste of time
Thank you for the perspective.
Now, this associate always submits his work beyond what we were asked to do at the moment and I had no idea why they were doing that. That left me hanging because there must be some strategy this person is using to make himself look good. Now, good for them but I would like to know why they are doing all the tasks that the team is not being asked to do. Does this happen to you at your firm or your projects? As an analyst, I know my position in the project, but I need to understand why that person does certain things that are not being directed to do. I never miss a single email so I know what is being asked to do. I don’t believe that the team has a behind the scene conversation without having me there. If they do, well why staffed me at the first place? I am just not happy with this person so if you guys have any tips how to approach this situation, please share and thank you!
