After being mugged and having my things (including my keys) stolen, I was locked out of my townhome after business hours on a weekend. I was told on the phone when dialing my complex’s after hours number (which is managed by a 3rd party company) that my complex’s policy would let me in for a cost of $100 (as it was after hours). Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

What was the hardest class year for you? I used to think first year was by far the hardest but now I’m a third year and I’m really feeling the pressure to step up. Thoughts on debt finance vs. capital markets for lifestyle?

Recent lateral (6ish months). On pace for 2000. Partners keep asking me if I’m liking the quality/type of work I’m getting and telling me to let them know if I feel overwhelmed by my (very manageable) workload. Am I crazy or do they think I’m going to leave for another firm or something six months in?

Lawyer Couples:
I’m currently an associate (no kids) in a very busy corp group (think 50-60 billable weekly). My wife works significantly less (currently part time, 10-15, but hopefully will be full time soon). I find myself getting upset when asked to help with basic household things (trash, cooking etc.) when she’s been lounging around watching Netflix all day. Am I being reasonable or am I a misogynist? How do you deal with one person having significantly more free time than the other?

Any BigLaw tax groups not slammed/understaffed nowadays? We're in middle of our second big wave of departures since January without a single replacement yet, and it's looking like time to escape (unless every tax group is experiencing this).

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.
