EP1, what are some of the advantages while freelancing? Just the money?
ACD 1, going back to work after 8weeks, did you go back to gigs who knew you well therefore we’re more flexible/understanding? Trying to imagine saying I need to leave at 5:30 as a freelancer and am having a hard time believing people would be cool with it/ever want to hire me again.
My first gig back was work from home, then at about 3 months I did my first on-site with an agency I’d worked with before. Now days I have a nanny to pick my daughter up from daycare. She watches her until 7:30. If I’m able to be home early, great, but if not, at least I have until 7:30. The only bummer is if I’m not working, I’m have to pay the nanny either way.
I did! It depends how you handle stress, uncertainty and how your finances are. I got really anxious about money during the pregnancy bc work was super slow, but it all worked out in the end
(Con’t)... not just for maternity leave, but for flexibility and greater understanding when it comes to leaving early, etc. husband has great benefits, so not concerned there. But as the main breadwinner, I am concerned with being able to stay as in demand when I might not be as available to be as “on demand” as I am now. Would love to hear experiences/thoughts/etc
I had a baby as a freelancer and it was fine. I worked up until 39 weeks and took 8 weeks off afterwards. She’s now 1.5 years and I’m still freelancing.
I was freelance when I had my first. Then did a year staff and went back to freelance. I’m actually pregnant again now. There are definitely advantages and disadvantages to being freelance as a mom but you can make it work.
Yes I did!
Op the money is good but you also get longer periods of time off if you want them. I find there’s way more flexibility as well as work from home options.
