Practice. If you’re talking about social anxiety, practice helps ease this.
Remind yourself that no one thinks you’re being awkward, no one thinks you’re weird, no one thinks you’re annoying. In fact, no one is probably thinking about you at all. You’re all there to have a good time and chances are, you might never see those people ever again. Unless you hit it off, in which case, great job!
Make it a goal to talk to one person. I hate networking events but that gets me over my dread of going.
Practice, nobody is thinking about you as much as you think, and make eye contact. I had the hardest time with this too, it really does get better if you keep trying. I was always so worried about saying something dumb with new people because my anxiety told me it would be so terrible if I did; turns out even if you do say something dumb, most people are nice enough to not point it out.

It wasn’t really weird but I do have social anxiety which causes me to overthink minor interactions. It’s best for me to not throw alcohol into the mix — thanks for understanding 😌
It’s really never as bad as you think and 99% of the people going to the event are feeling the same, are humans, shit just like you. at least that’s what I tell myself before group events to calm me
