I’m considering asking a previous coworker to write my Rec.

Context - no one has managed me more than 6-7 months because of role changes/promotions (both mine and theirs)

My coworker is a director & I had a dotted line to him. In practice he was a co manager but on paper he wasn’t. He’d write a stellar Rec given our relationship, and the work I’ve done with him but I’m worried about this being an issue in the background check since HR can’t verify me reporting to him. Thoughts??

Due to unforeseen circumstances I might have to withdraw from my 401k. With the hardship withdrawal setup in my account it says it will deduct 20%. Does this include state and local ?

Thinking about trying for first child soon (i.e., in next 3-4 months) and also feeling burnt out on the job. Part of me wants to tough out the grind to take maternity leave at a company I know and be able to navigate pregnancy + return with colleagues I've built relationship with. Just got an offer for PwC. It’s pretty compelling just wondering if there are any benefits PwC 🐠 would point out as “lacking”? I’m thinking health, phone, 401K and PTO, etc all look good.

During my articles, I worked with a law clerk who lacked attention to detail so badly that her primary lawyer asked for a transfer. She was also kind of rude and always made more work for me somehow. I now know what it’s like to work with a talented clerk who takes pride in their work, but due to recent events have been told that the first clerk will be MY clerk, providing all assistant and clerking support on all of my files. Any tips/advice??
