Anybody have any tricks for finding a reliable contractor? This is the 3rd roofing person to stand me up, and this after two different GCs last week showed up hours to a full day late. Plumbers, electricians, masons...I haven't been able to get anybody who will show up when they say they will across any specialty. What gives!?

During my job search, I am getting a lot of recruiters asking for me to answer right to represent emails. These particular recruiters follow a same pattern and seem unprofessional. Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers? I have a counter offer from my current company and on-site interviews scheduled for end of July with google and Amazon, but I’d prefer to go with the smaller local company if I can negotiate the salary (from offer letter) up another 5% or so.
