As IHC? Yes. It’s going to be prohibited by your employment terms. You MAY be able to get limited approval for work not related to the same scope as your job, and not during business hours.
E.g. you could potentially serve on a BoD (provided it’s not for a customer, vendor, competitor), but you couldn’t provide said Board legal advice. Handling legal matters for a spouse? That’s reasonable. Helping family/friends setting up template estate plan docs? If you’re not charging maybe. If you are they might be problematic (and then you need malpractice insurance…)

Oh my sweet summer child. Google it
Ive only moonlighted random cases i could settle without litigation. Second lit is necessary i would refer out for a fee. And i only did this in states i was licensed in but firm was not operating. Made an extra 50-80k the last 3 yrs just making phone calls 🫡 low risk in my specific scenario.
I had insurance when i was handling matters i knew i would likely recover fees to put into trust. I informed my firm first they did not care. When i moved on from there my firm said to close up shop, so i continued but i only refer out now so the only money i receive is a referral fee not needing a trust account. Low risk, so i dont have insurance. But check your state’s rules on that. You may need it just to function/operate.
