Anyone aware of a site where I can do UI/UX freelance work for people for free? Really want to beef up my portfolio and add new case studies. I can’t post my work from my actual job since it’s proprietary. Have profiles set up for Upwork and Fiverr but have not found any success with those. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

I’ve thought about doing this but haven’t actually done it! I’ve thought about doing this for under represented / underfunded communities or projects, like a mom/pop local restaurant, projects like that!

Now that your post has me thinking about it again, I wonder if it might make sense to ping your networks! I know there are a lot of huge design Slack communities. Maybe try finding some of those and doing a post there? I can recommend you to one, DM me! Perhaps a post on LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram within your networks could generate some leads. Or maybe even update a dribbble or behance profile as well.

Though it’s controversial to do work for free, I really love the idea of donating time and design to not only better a portfolio, but to also do some ‘design good’ for folks who otherwise don’t have access to UI/UX specialists

This is a nice thought, but have in mind that mom and pop shops either use something like square space, Shopify etc where they update their website themselves and struggle even with the simplest functions. Or they need to pay someone to implement what the UX designer is proposing. So unless you can develop the site yourself not sure if offering your UX services for free would suffice.

I’d love to connect with you. It’s not a site but can use your expertise and yes use for your case studies and portfolio

That would be amazing! It looks like you don’t have your DMs open yet. Let me know if there’s an alternate method to contact you.

Open to an internship?

Not sure how that would work since I have a job and am no longer a student. Feel like I don’t meet the criteria to be an intern.

What is the biggest challenge you face as a UX DESIGNER in teams?

Hi Everyone! I’m an emerging UX Designer and would love some advise on how to pivot into this field. A little about me: I’ve always been creative and tech savvy - stemming from my beginnings as an IT major and ending with a BA & MA in Art History. I’ve had experience with usability studies and testing for the rollout of Salesforce in my company and have finished my Google UX certificate this past June. I would love to start working in a field that I’m passionate about. Any advise is appreciated!

Hi 👋 Any good UX books for senior designer level that helps with strategy, and good frameworks, or anything that will help me with my thought process? I have the basic books like don’t make me think, and 100 things. I’ll be joining a startup soon as chief designer, and will be back to being a full stack designer — I’ve been an IC for the past few years, so I definitely need to improve on strategies and maybe frameworks when it comes to UX. Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! 🙏🏻

I am product designer with a fair amount of experience (6yrs).

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately, the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

I am also in the advanced stages of some lead designer positions in other companies.

However, I am really interested in joining the team at Booking, especially because of the design culture.

What should be my reasons to accept or not accept the offer from booking?

I’m transitioning from Art Director to UX/UI Designer. As an AD, I’ve worked on UX/UI but it wasn’t the only thing I did. I don’t know how to title myself on my resume with all my experience being an AD and/or Designer though.

Does anyone have some advice on how to approach applying to jobs during this transition?

Few tips to improve your visual design skills

- Learn Typography: Typography is essential because 60-70% of user interfaces are about written content displayed in a meaningful way.

- Learn Layout and Composition: You don’t need to be pixel perfect, but if you place labels 10px above inputs, you must do that consistently across your whole design.

- Learn Color: Color doesn't need to be complex. Understand how colors interact with each other and learn how color can set moods.

How to make a leap from UI/UX into product design? What skills should a PD have? With 5 YOE and I still feel like a junior. I know the basics of testing and conducting workshops, but I don't know how to develop those skills further. My company focuses on UI and I haven't been lucky to land a PD job. I’m building my first iOS app. I only have experience in material design. I’m looking for easy to comprehend specs around standard design elements: headers, chips, buttons, etc. The iOS UI support material is nearly impossible to understand. Any advice for the best place to find that info? I’ve tried survival kits that aren’t very consistent. I’d also be willing to buy a quality iOS kit. Thanks in advance for the help!
