Anyone else struggling to walk away from Big Law comp even though the lifestyle is completely unsustainable? Moving in-house seems like the logical choice for better wlb, but looking at a potential 30% pay cut makes me feel incredibly hesitant.

A decent IHC role you’re only working 45 hours a week.

A GREAT IHC role you’re working 35.

Imagine getting to actually take a vacation? Or spending (statistically nearly) every night/weekend free?

I feel like my struggle with in-house is that most positions are less pay with same/more hours (at least based on peer experiences at the types of businesses that would hire my specialization). Depending on your specialty, a 30% pay cut for better wlb sounds like a win but I definitely understand how the pay cut is hard to accept.

This is a risk. You could up ending up at a bad IHC role and work just as much (though I would argue that the hours may be the same, the stress and politics are not). But if you plan, lean on your network, and dont rush the process - you can avoid this misstep or at least reduce the likelihood.

Golden Handcuffs are real. I took a similar financial hit when i went IHC and it probably saved my marriage and life. Seriously. I am healthier and happier.

Take the same energy and intelligence you used to get to BL and make a budget/save. Plan and then exit. You got this!

Company on track for 22 goals. Traditionally included 2% profit sharing at YE, this year however comes with a unique caveat.

The CEO added a qualifier, to be eligible for the payout one must agree to and sign a binding arbitration agreement. In the CEOs email to staff he indicates these agreements are standard in most companies and typically required for new hires.

I’m curious to get insight from others. Is this standard practice and generally required for new hires? Something feels off.

Just wondering.. L&D Specialist salary and duties for others. Degree? No degree?

Hiya!

I'm looking at applying to MBB (Preferably BCG) for a summer internship this summer. I'm a first-gen Oxbridge student, and while I have little experience in consulting along the lines of MBB, I did work in the city last summer as an sustainability consultant.

I'm curious how important it is to have a referral etc and what you'd recommend for applications opening in jan. Any advice is super appreciated I don't have any connections to the industry but it's something im interested in.

Coming up on one full year at an ID firm. Feeling overwhelmed with my experience so far. I’ve received minimal training/feedback unless it was on something I messed up. It feels like the expectations don’t align with my level of experience. I have a case load of 45-55 with very little oversight or involvement from partners. Turnover is extremely high, as I’m the second longest tenured associate in the office. Looking for some guidance on whether this is the norm or not. Compensation is low 80’s.

Q’s for hiring partners and recruiters - you know that most associates quit their managing attorneys and not the firm/case. I’m in that boat. What do I say to a prospective employer about the situation of why I want to jump ship?

Very brief background - I’m a senior associate who has been on one complex commercial litigation case for over a year. Over time, the relationships between attorneys on the case have deteriorated to the point that it is affecting my productivity/work. I want out.
